Knowing and using these typical English phrases I do think is a good way to get more familiar with the comparatives.

Your heart is bigger (or: larger) than life! (this is good to appreciate – with a touch of emphasis – somebody’s generosity. Needless to say the possessive adjective ‘Your’ can be easily replaced by any other possessive adjective).
Better late than never
Better now than later
Better safe than sorry
Things are going better and better
(le cose stanno andando di bene in meglio / sempre meglio)
Things are going worse and worse
(le cose stanno andando di male in peggio / sempre peggio)
The sooner, the better (più presto è, meglio è)
The newer, the better
The bigger the lie, the better (se devi dire una bugia dilla grossa)
The more, the better
The more you read, the better
The more, the merrier

The more cigarettes you have, the more you smoke
So much the better! (tanto meglio!)
